Neeraj Chopra is chosen as the Indian flag bearer for the Asian games at Jakarta, Indonesia. The official announcement was made at the send off meet arranged for the contingent.
Neeraj is an extremely talented Javelin thrower hailing from Panipat, Haryana. He has numerous feathers in his cap making him an apt candidate as the flag bearer for the Indian contingent.
He is the first Indian to win gold at the Commonwealth games (2018) in his debut performance by registering the best throw of 86.47 meters. In the recently concluded Sotteville Athletics meet in France he once again struck gold after throwing 85.69m. He also has to his credit a gold medal in the Asian Athletic championships in 2017 and 2016 IAAF World U-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. His personal best is 87.43 m at the Doha Diamond League, where he finished fourth.
With all these thrilling achievements and excellent form Chopra is one of top Indian prospects for gold at the upcoming 18th Asian Games.
The government of India has also taken special efforts to train the athletes and is hopeful of great success in the Asian games.
